Our Story

Our History

David Cock (1914-1992) was a farmer, a very fine cricketer, a community-minded man and a Justice of the Peace. He played cricket for Essex and served during the war in the Royal Air Force. The David Cock Foundation is using David’s legacy, and the proceeds of the sale of part of David’s farmland in Essex, to build and support stronger, healthier communities.

The Trustees of the David Cock Foundation have sought to support charities that would have resonated with David. Our grants have included installing solar panels on a hospice roof, helping disadvantaged young people to overcome barriers to opportunity, investing in companies that have the potential to change the lives of the poorest and building the skills and resilience of community leaders across the UK.

Over the final few years of our Foundation’s life, the Trustees will focus on supporting a few key causes where we feel that we can make a significant difference to communities and individuals.
